Quills-et-al
John
Poole and Jane Hepple
Quill cutters are one of the
most fasinating and interesting of writing equipment items. Quills
were provided in their millions but the writing quill pen had
to be shaped correctly to make them useful for writing. Quill
cutters were developed as a more sophisticated means of cutting
the quill and re-cutting the quill. They are amongst the best
of the many unsung heroes of writing equipment. We have only one
left at the moment. It only has the letters MOR... on the blade
which makes it very frustrating because Mordan was known to have
supplied quill cutters but not necessarily to have made them.
Mordan usually put his name on the blade. But then it could have
been MORGAN or even MORELAND - whoever they might have been!!
